Government Regulation

Waterwise conforms to the following government requirements and plumbing regulations, and state approved rebate programs are available in some states..

Victorian Government

In Victoria the Greywater Gardener 230™ meets and exceeds health regulations associated with the practice of sound greywater reuse. With safety a top priority, the system has been designed to completely circumvent the possible health concerns when using greywater. It does not store the water at all, or allow water to be airborne – the two areas for potential problems when using greywater.

Plumbing regulations in Victoria state that any work involving a cut to waste (overflow) from a greywater system must be carried out by a licensed plumber.

In Victoria no EPA or council permit is required to install the Greywater Gardener 230™ because it is classed as a simple household diversion system.

The Victorian Government Watersmart Homes & Gardens Rebate Scheme is administrated through your local water authority, funded by Department of Sustainability and Environment.

The Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme gives you the chance to save water and money inside the home. Everyone can save water in their home and garden.

The Victorian Government's rebate scheme lets Victorians claim rebates on water saving products like three-star water efficient showerheads, upgrading to eligible dual flush toilets, garden products, rainwater tanks and systems for re-using household waste water.

The Greywater Gardener 230™ is a rebate approved product. A Plumbing Certificate is given to the customer on the day of their installation. Victorian Households connected to mains water can then use it to apply for the $500.00 Rebate, (one of the largest of the Government’s Watersmart Gardens & Homes Rebates), which acts as a credit on the household’s water bill or as a cash rebate (cheque or direct deposit). For the past three years Waterwise Systems® has accounted for more $500 government rebates than all other greywater systems combined.

Basix

The Greywater Gardener 230™ can be specified as part of your BASIX compliance.

What is BASIX and how does it work? – From the NSW Department of Planning website ( BASIX Fact Sheet: www.basix.nsw.gov.au )

“Introduced by the NSW Government, BASIX ensures homes are built to be more energy and water efficient.

BASIX is on-line program that assesses a house or unit design, and compares it against energy and water reduction targets. The design must meet these targets before a BASIX Certificate can be printed.

Every development application for a new home must be submitted to Council with a BASIX Certificate.

BASIX uses information such as site location, house size, type of building materials and fittings for hot water, cooling and heating.

It is important to realise that the commitments made during the BASIX process are shown on the final certificate and must be marked on the plans, and adhered to during the building process.

Any changes made to the house design means another BASIX assessment must be completed and a new BASIX Certificate submitted to Council.”
